About Cleansers
A skin cleanser should be used regularly to remove dirt, prevent the
buildup of grease and to remove dead skin cells.

Cleansing should be effective without irritating the skin or leaving
it dry like the traditional bars of soap. To achieve this it is important
to choose the right products taking into consideration the properties
of your skin. These are:
- Type of skin
- age
- skin allergies
- presence of any skin problems
Different cleansers have been developed for cleansing different skin
types. Cream, milk or lotion cleansers are particularly suitable for removing
make-up and other solid residues from dry skin. All these use the dissolving
action of oils to remove make-up and other products left on the skin's
surface. These emulsions are formulated to leave behind a moisturizing
(emollient) film to prevent the excessive removal of fats from the skin.
Cleansers are designed to remove the oils and fats secreted by the skin's
sebaceous glands but not the natural lipids like ceramides, which help
prevent an excessive loss of water from the skin.
When cleansing dry skin, it is important to remove all the existing
products from the skin. After using the cleansing product, use a tissue
or water to rinse the skin. Cleansers use ingredients such as mineral
oils and syndets to dissolve make-up and dirt on the skin and some also
contain moisturizing ingredients.
Oily or greasy skin is prevalent in young people and can cause acne
and other skin problems. A light oil-in-water emulsion can be used to
cleanse this type of skin. Greasy skin tends to be more robust than than
dry skin and less prone to moisture loss.
